Sophie Bertin is a former senior official who served as Head of Unit in the “Financial Crisis” Task Force within the Directorate-General for Competition at the European Commission. At DG COMP, Ms. Bertin was responsible for the state aid review, approval and monitoring of the interventions of the European Member States in the financial services sector during the height of the financial crisis. She was personally involved in a number of the key banking cases, such as cases in Belgium (KBC and Dexia), France, Luxembourg, Austria, Bulgaria, Latvia, among others, as well as in the so-called “Program Countries”, such as Portugal or Slovenia. She has in-depth experience with the state aid substance as well as the process and has successfully led State aid investigations.
