Mark Meador Confirmed as FTC Commissioner
Thursday, May 1, 2025

On April 10, 2025, the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Mark Meador as a Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), with his term running through September 25, 2031.

President Trump originally nominated Commissioner Meador to fill an FTC seat on January 20, 2025. Commissioner Meador’s background includes stints as an attorney in the FTC’s Bureau of Competition and as a trial attorney in the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.

Commissioner Meador joins Chairman Andrew Ferguson and Commissioner Melissa Holyoak on the FTC. This confirmation was initially expected to result in substantial changes at the FTC, as it would provide Republicans a 3–2 majority and the votes needed to change the FTC’s direction. Following President Trump’s decision to dismiss two Democratic Commissioners earlier this year, leaving two seats open, Commissioner Meador’s confirmation merely adds to the Republican majority. However, because the two dismissed Democratic Commissioners are challenging their removals, Commissioner Meador’s confirmation could still serve as the decisive vote for a Republican majority.
