New York-based IPA 100 firm Citrin Cooperman (FY24 net revenue of $871 million) has entered into an agreement to acquire substantially all the assets of Chicago-based IPA 200 firm ORBA (FY24 net revenue of $48.97 million). The transaction, expected to close in October 2025, expands Citrin Cooperman’s footprint in the Midwest and adds offices in downtown Chicago, Oak Brook, Ill., and Salt Lake City, Utah.
The addition of ORBA represents a significant milestone for Citrin Cooperman as it expands its footprint in the Midwest and enhances its capabilities across a wide range of industries, including manufacturing & distribution, professional services, sports & entertainment, real estate and other privately held businesses. ORBA joins Citrin Cooperman with 15 partners and over 150 professionals.
"This is a landmark milestone in Citrin Cooperman's continued growth," said Alan Badey, CEO of Citrin Cooperman Advisors LLC. "ORBA has an outstanding reputation built on decades of excellence, a deep group of talented professionals with trusted client relationships, and a culture that mirrors our own. Together, we are creating a powerful Midwest region that expands opportunities for our people and our clients. We are thrilled to have the ORBA team join Citrin Cooperman and make us Better, Together!"
Founded in 1977, ORBA has long been recognized as one of Chicago's most respected professional services firms, providing tax, accounting, and advisory services to entrepreneurs, privately held companies, nonprofit organizations and high-net-worth individuals. By joining Citrin Cooperman, ORBA's clients will gain access to expanded resources and advanced specialty services.
"Joining Citrin Cooperman marks an exciting new chapter for ORBA," said Joseph Odzer, CEO of ORBA. "We are proud of the firm we've built over nearly five decades, and this combination allows us to honor that legacy while unlocking new opportunities. Our clients will continue to receive the high-touch, personalized service they trust, with the added benefit of Citrin Cooperman's expansive expertise and resources. Our professionals will have tremendous opportunities for career success in a culture so closely aligned with what ORBA has established."
Allan Koltin, CEO of Koltin Consulting Group, who advised both firms on the transaction, said, “With their combination with ORBA (and Shepard Schwartz & Harris in 2022), Citrin Cooperman is now a Top 15 CPA and Advisory firm in Chicago with revenues over $75 million. Citrin Cooperman has done an amazing job of combining with highly entrepreneurial and “best in class” firms nationally since combining with their (strategic and capital) private equity partners (New Mountain Capital in 2021 and then Blackstone in 2025).”
This transaction reinforces Citrin Cooperman's strategic vision of thoughtful expansion by aligning with firms that share its commitment to excellence, collaboration and client-first service while having an extremely strong cultural fit. The firm has completed over 30 acquisitions since 2019, reinforcing its position as one of the most active and respected acquirers in the profession.
