The California Consumer Financial Protection Law (CCFPL) authorizes the Department of Financial Protection & Innovation (DFPI) “regarding registration requirements applicable to a covered person engaged in the business of offering or providing a consumer financial product or service,” Cal. Fin. Code § 90009(a)(1). Recently, the DFPI announced that it has adopted regulations providing for the registration and regulation of debt settlement services, education financing, income-based advances, and student debt relief providers. Now it asking the public what other industries should be subject to registration.
The DFPI is requesting that comments be submitted by December 12, 2024. Comments may be submitted electronically to regulations@dfpi.ca.gov. Commenters should include “PRO 07-24” in the subject line and copy Summer.Volkmer@dfpi.ca.gov and Bosco.Li@dfpi.ca.gov.
