Senate Legislative Activity
The Senate will convene today, January 30, at 3:00pm. Following any leader remarks, the Senate will be in a period of morning business until 5:00pm. At 5:00pm, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session to resume consideration of Executive Calendar #2, the nomination of Rex Tillerson to be Secretary of State. There will be 30 minutes of debate equally divided followed by a vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination. If cloture is invoked, there will then be up to 30 hours of debate followed by a vote on confirmation of the Tillerson nomination (expected Wednesday, February 1).
Last week, the Senate reached an agreement that on Tuesday, January 31, at 12:00pm, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session to consider the nomination of Executive Calendar #4, the nomination of Elaine L. Chao to be Secretary of Transportation. There will be 20 minutes of debate equally divided followed by a vote on confirmation of the nomination.
