Michael G. Morrison II

Professional Biography

Mr. Morrison is a servant leader whose lived experiences have established one major philosophical imperative to his work: “Everyone/thing is Based on a True Story.” Mr. Morrison believes that nothing threatens access to justice more than a story untold.

Michael received his undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Juris Doctor degree from The University of Alabama School of Law (Go Heels and Roll Tide)—both of which he attended on full-tuition scholarships. Prior to joining Ogletree Deakins, Michael practiced plaintiff-side labor and employment law with Van Kampen Law, PC in Charlotte, North Carolina and general commercial litigation with Bailey & Dixon, LLP in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Morrison has significant client-facing experience by representing and defending individuals, businesses, insurers, and their insureds in complex matters ranging from navigating workplace dilemmas, workplace discrimination or retaliation, wage and hour disputes, contract disputes, and unfair business practices. Michael’s exposure to both plaintiff and defense representation informs his holistic approach to representing clients.

In addition to working with Van Kampen Law and Bailey & Dixon, Michael served as a judicial law clerk for the Georgia Court of Appeals under the Honorable Judge Verda Colvin, and as a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) consultant with Wilmor Works, LLC. Mr. Morrison continues to assist businesses in the creation, implementation, and management of diversity and inclusion initiatives. At the intersection of Michael’s academic training, work experiences, and salient identities lies his appreciation of, and sensitivity to, the diversity of people he represents. For this reason, Mr. Morrison has committed himself to perpetual self-reflection and self-critique as a lifelong learner and reflective practitioner that perceives subtlety, challenges power imbalances, and cultivates respectful and dynamic relationships.

Away from the office, Michael enjoys being a dog dad to his Goldendoodles, Sunny and Maui, and staying active with as many outdoor activities as possible. In 2021, Mr. Morrison was recognized by the National Black Lawyers as one of their top 40 lawyers under the age of 40.
