Katherine "Katie" Caprez provides strategic counsel for clients in the public and private sectors. Her work portfolio includes government relations and lobbying and well as consulting. Katie provides clients with strategic counsel, working with them to create strategic plans and establish coalitions which support their goals.
Katie assists clients seeking to build or strengthen relationships with state decisionmakers and provides analysis on state legislative and regulatory policy developments. Katie also helps clients identify and respond to funding opportunities from a variety of sources.
Katie began her career in state government as a Legislative Aide and Committee Clerk in the Ohio House of Representatives. As a Legislative Aide to Representative Kyle Koehler for more than two and a half years, she clerked the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee while Rep Koehler served as Chair. As a committee clerk for the Ohio House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, Katie gained in-depth experience of the logistical and tactical demands surrounding the development of legislation.
Given Representative Koehler’s intensive involvement in primary and secondary education legislation and Katie’s personal passion for children’s issues, she has been intensively engaged in efforts to improve the state’s K-12 education policy. She continues to advocate for comprehensive educational policy improvements, now on behalf of RCS’ many school district clients.
As an Akron native, Katie also cares deeply about economic and community development, especially as it affects Ohio’s mid-sized cities. She provides strategic advising and logistical support for public sector clients in Ohio’s mid-sized urban communities, as well as larger urban and small suburban municipalities.
Katie’s relationships and knowledge base give her a particular insight into the ways economic development efforts, public policy implementation, and coalition-building are affected by population size and workforce dynamics.
Before working in state government and advocacy, Katie served at-risk youth in middle school classrooms in Austin, Texas and Los Angeles, California as a member of AmeriCorps. Katie is an Honors College graduate of Miami University, where she double-majored in Political Science and Professional Writing, with a focus in Public Rhetoric. She also earned a MMBA Certificate from the Farmer School of Business through Miami University’s miniMBA program.
