Jason advises healthcare clients as they navigate the ever-changing regulations and statutes within the industry. He provides counsel on the operational, regulatory and legal challenges facing local, regional and national healthcare providers.
He counsels healthcare entities on strategic affiliations (transactions), hospital joint ventures, medical staff matters, government investigations, physician employment, managed care contracting, value-based care, Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA), Accountable Care Organizations, provider-based determinations, audits, and HIPAA. Jason also helps clients address issues related to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark Law violations. He has a particular passion for assisting providers with adopting new emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, telehealth, wearable devices and remote patient monitoring.
Creative problem-solving drives Jason’s client-centered strategic initiatives and business outcomes. Jason’s in-house experience as lead general counsel and chief strategy officer at a multi-hospital health system during the COVID-19 pandemic gives him a unique perspective on representing hospitals and healthcare providers. Jason led three hospital campuses, 26 physician office locations, urgent care, three long-term care facilities, a home health entity, a health insurance agency, and ownership interests in multiple health care organizations.
He also led government relations, working with federal and state officials on advocacy initiatives and successfully lobbied for changes to state telemedicine laws to ensure equal treatment and parity for telemedicine services.
Outside of work, Jason has maintained a strong commitment to improving his community and mentoring young lawyers. Jason is vice president of the board of directors of Potawatomi Zoo, which has undergone a major strategic expansion over the last several years. He also serves as an externship supervisor mentoring law students in Notre Dame Law School’s Corporate Counsel Externship program.
