Ian Surdell focuses his practice on a range of matters involving federal and state environmental laws and regulations. Ian works diligently and efficiently to assess and resolve issues and disputes in a client-friendly manner.
He works with clients on issues regarding environmental compliance, permitting, and enforcement actions. Ian assists with legal research and analysis on a variety of environmental topics.
Prior to joining the firm full-time, Ian was a summer associate with Barnes & Thornburg. He assisted the environmental group by reviewing files, drafting documents, researching novel areas of environmental law and supporting strategic decision-making.
Ian was a legal extern for the Honorable Mary Kay Rochford of the Illinois Appellate Court and a fellow and extern for Illinois JusticeCorps while in law school. Additionally, he gained practical environmental law experience working at the Emory environmental law clinic, where he researched and submitted reports regarding energy use, weatherization, environmental justice access and solutions, and utilizing both local and federal legislation to best facilitate those goals.
