Eric C. Pettis

Professional Biography

Eric is senior litigation counsel in the firm’s Los Angeles office. His practice focuses on complex commercial, securities, and professional liability litigation in federal and state court as well as internal and regulatory investigations, including those brought by the U.S. Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.

Eric is known for his ability to manage fast-moving, multi-front litigation and for building cross-functional teams that align litigation strategy with broader business goals. He has represented public and private companies, executives, high-net-worth individuals and investment entities from various industries consulting, cryptocurrency, entertainment, finance, government contracting, infrastructure, life sciences, private equity, real estate, sports, and technology.

Eric has extensive experience in all phases of litigation — from pre-dispute counseling through trial and appeal. His trial work includes substantial roles in complex litigation, such as a high-profile fairness trial in Delaware Chancery Court involving one of the largest acquisitions challenged in recent years. In that matter, his work contributed to a complete defense judgment for his client, which was affirmed on appeal.

Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Eric was a litigation associate at a global AmLaw 100 firm.

Before entering the legal profession, Eric played professional baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. That experience informs both his competitive mindset and his collaborative approach to team leadership and client advocacy.
