Donald L. Thompson

Professional Biography

Donald Thompson is a litigator in our Washington DC office who focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation matters and government investigations.

Donald represents clients in a wide variety of disputes involving commercial contracts, construction claims, terrorism financing, business torts and fraud. Prior to joining our team, Donald worked as an Insider Trading Investigator for FINRA, where he gained first-hand experience conducting investigations into securities trading surrounding corporate disclosures, such as earnings releases, drug trials and merger transactions. He also worked as a law clerk for a Florida-based law firm assisting in various civil matters, including business law and class action defense.

During his legal studies, Donald completed two honors internships with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) assisting the Enforcement Division with trial preparation and motion practice for two high-profile investigations that resulted in a combined recovery by the government of nearly US$200 million. He also worked with the SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations in evaluating financial advisers by reviewing Form ADV filings and performing background research on broker dealers.

Donald has also participated in two legal internships with the State Attorney’s Office in Florida’s Second Judicial Circuit, as well as an internship in the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division. While with the State Attorney, he litigated 19 felony jury trials and numerous evidentiary hearings.
