Courtney Gilmer is Of Counsel at Nelson Mullins' Nashville office. Courtney’s practice is focused on working with financial services clients in navigating increasingly complex regulatory and business environments. Courtney has experience with laws impacting both traditional and innovative lenders in the consumer financial services space. Examples of her work include assisting clients with developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance management systems, preparing policies and procedures, performing internal compliance audits for clients, preparing clients for outside audits, as well as preparing related lending documents and disclosures. She also advises financial institutions, FinTech companies, and other financial services providers regarding relationships with federal and state regulatory agencies. Courtney provides guidance to clients on a variety of laws, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP), Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) and other privacy laws.
Prior to joining Nelson Mullins, Courtney served as legal counsel and compliance officer for a financial services company, helping her gain a deeper understanding of day-to-day business operations and the challenges of the regulatory environment. Working directly with the C-Suite gave Courtney an understanding of how companies face the unforeseen circumstances that arise as well as the opportunities such circumstances present. Courtney uses all of her experience to create innovative solutions for her clients and to position them for future success.
