Professional Biography

Christophe Leprêtre is an experienced advisor to the firm’s clients on matters of national, regional, and international complexity. Mr. Leprêtre has a unique expertise in regulatory matters affecting the food industry. 

Mr. Leprêtre’s principal areas of expertise are:

  • Food safety risk analysis (assessment, management, and communication);
  • General and applied food and food ingredient laws (including food additives, flavorings, novel foods, contaminants, labeling, nutrition labeling, fortification, nutrition and health claims), regulations and standards;
  • International standards in the area of food and food products (e.g. UN FAO /World Health Organization (WHO) Codex Alimentarius, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP)-Food Chemical Codex) and their relationship and importance to the WTO Agreements on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) related matters.

Mr. Leprêtre provides key support to Keller and Heckman attorneys counseling clients regarding European and International regulatory bodies and processes, including:
 

  • European institutions (Council, Parliament, Commission);
  • European Standing Committee on Plant, Animal Health, Food and Feed (in particular, the sections on Novel Food and toxicological safety of the food chain and General food law);
  • Codex Alimentarius Commission and its Committees on Food Additives, Labelling and Nutrition;
  • National WTO notifications;
  • National regulatory processes in Japan, China, European Union (EU) and EU member countries, United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and the Gulf States, among others.

Mr. Leprêtre graduated as a French Food and Agriculture Sciences Engineer, with a major in agri-food company economics. He also holds a Master in Sciences in potable and waste water treatment and waste management techniques.
