Drawing on more than 25 years of experience as a first-chair trial lawyer, Alex Barnard guides clients through the complexities of litigation matters. With a holistic approach, Alex considers each way litigation can impact a client, employing tailored strategies designed to achieve the best possible outcome.
Although he has particular experience in the financial services and insurance spaces, clients in a host of other industries also turn to Alex to counsel them on a broad range of litigation cases. A tough and skilled adversary, Alex has served as lead counsel in hundreds of mediations, arbitrations, and court cases over the past decade. He has also represented clients at both the trial and appellate levels, in federal and state courts, and before administrative bodies. Clients value Alex’s concise and practical advice as he balances cost, business objectives, public perception, and risk.
Alex also leverages his litigation experience to advise clients on internal issues and policies as well as on strategies to reduce the possibility of litigation or regulatory enforcement.
Alex routinely speaks on a variety of legal developments, including those relating to dispute resolution, arbitration, ethics, trade secret protection, as well as commercial and employment litigation.
After graduating from Columbia Law School at the top of his class, Alex trained at two of the top AM Law firms and later served as a Managing Director at a global financial services company, in its General Counsel division based in New York City, where he was the Head of Employment Law and Litigation for the Americas, covering all employment law issues. He also served as the Global Head of Legal Executive Compensation, Benefits, and ERISA, responsible for drafting and advising on the company’s compensation plans and practices worldwide.
