PRIs are permissions within the charitable, or program, side of the foundation. PRIs allow foundations to make profitable investments, as long as it meets the charitable purpose of the foundation.

MRIs are permissions within the corpus, or endowment, side of the Foundation. They cannot jeopardize the health of the foundation. However, non-financial factors (“mission alignment”) can be considered.
