Want to Turn on Your Employer? There’s an App for That.
Friday, September 27, 2013

Plaintiffs’ firms looking to capitalize on the growth in whistleblower litigation are turning to smart phone technology to try to gain a competitive edge.  Well-known Delaware plaintiffs’ class action law firm Grant & Eisenhofer is attempting to enlarge its footprint in the burgeoning qui tam litigation field with a new smart phone app called, “Whistleblower Laws:  Know Your Rights.”  Available for free through the Apple iTunes App Store (for iPhone) and the Google play app store (for Android), the app guides aspiring whistleblowers through the requirements (and rewards) for bringing a whistleblower action.  The app provides links to summaries of relevant laws, offers a checklist to allow a user to determine whether he or she might be a whistleblower, and provides links to Grant & Eisenhofer’s website and blog to allow the prospective litigant to investigate the firm’s qualifications.  While it seems unlikely that Whistleblower Laws will supplant Candy Crush Saga atop the iTunes Store’s “Most Popular Apps” list, the release of this app may signal an increasing use of social media and high tech tools by thequi tam bar to encourage whistleblower litigation.
