CAF II Auction Closes
The FCC’s Connect America Fund Phase II Auction concluded on August 21. Official auction results will be released in a Public Notice that will set out the date on which the long-form application is due.
FirstNet Interoperability Issues
On July 6, the Colorado Public Safety Broadband Governing Body’s (CPSBGB) submitted a filing to the FCC seeking guidance on interoperability between FirstNet’s AT&T-supported network and existing public safety networks in the state (of which 65% are supported by Verizon). As reported by Mission Critical, after hearing from FirstNet, the Colorado Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) backtracked on the filing asking the FCC not to go forward. Nevertheless, ex parte filings have already been submitted by Verizon, the Competitive Carriers Association (CCA), Southern Linc, and C-Spire Wireless, Inc. in support of Colorado’s initial filing.
Cybersecurity Certification Program for Cellular-Connected IoT Devices
CTIA, the wireless industry association, announced the creation of the CTIA Cybersecurity Certification Program for cellular-connected Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Leading wireless operators, technology companies, security experts, and test labs collaborated to develop the program’s test requirements, which build upon IoT security recommendations from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The program will begin accepting devices for certification testing starting October of this year.
