The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBP) is required to adopt a resolution specifying the required types of credentials for the responsible person of each business type of (i) terminal distributors of dangerous drugs and (ii) distributor of dangerous drugs. Only individuals who meet the credentials specified may be the responsible person for that type of business.

On Jan. 6, 2020, the OBP adopted updated responsible person requirements for terminal distributors and distributors of dangerous drugs. The updated requirements can be reviewed here.

Terminal distributor business types including, but not limited to, ambulatory surgery centers, clinics, mental health, prescriber practices, urgent care, opioid treatment programs, home health care providers, and hospitals must ensure that their responsible person possesses the required credentials and meets any special requirements specified by the OBP. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action against the terminal distributor and/or the responsible person.

Distributors of dangerous drugs business types including, but not limited to, manufacturers, outsourcing facilities, repackagers, buying groups, and brokers must ensure that their responsible person possesses the required credentials and meets any special requirements specified by the OBP. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action against the distributor of dangerous drugs and/or the responsible person.
