Ongoing USCIS Delays in Issuing Receipt Notices
Thursday, December 17, 2020

On December 15, 2020, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it is still experiencing delays in issuing receipt notices for filed petitions and applications.  The announcement states that the delay is caused by a significant increase in filings, combined with COVID related capacity limitations at its mailroom facilities.

In addition to delays at USCIS, the United States Postal Service is also experiencing intermittent delays in mail delivery due to limited staffing and capacity, and increased holiday mail volume.

USCIS advises that receipt notices should be issued within 30 days of the filing.  Given these delays, receipt notices may take as long as 6-8 weeks to be delivered.
