The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services released a new version of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form on July 17. Employers may use the new version or the prior version until Sept. 17, 2017. Beginning on Sept. 18, 2017, the new version of the I-9 must be used for any new verifications.
Changes to the form include renumbering the list of acceptable “List C” documents, adding FS-240 Consular Report of Birth Abroad to List C, and combining various Department of State documents into one category. The form instructions also update the name of the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices to its current title, “Immigrants and Employee Rights Section.”
