It’s the question that every lawyer is going to ask himself or someone else at least once in his career: “How do I get more cases?”
One way to do that is by creating content for your potential clients. You should have things that you can send to them (DVDs, Newsletters, Books) as well as things that you can send them to, namely your website.
Your website is a key part of making an impression for you.
It is stupid to do a huge marketing campaign, spend thousands of dollars, and put in a great deal of time when you send them to a website that is generic, boring, and full of low quality content.
Say a potential client sees your ad in the newspaper. (Hopefully you’re posting your website as well as a phone number to call.) Now say they go to your website and all it consists of is a picture of you, a gavel, and a bunch of nonsensical articles that don’t give any information. (Did your heart stop because you realized I just described your website?)
They will never hire that attorney. Just because your ad is nice and shiny doesn’t mean people are going to ignore terrible content. Put as much effort into educating as you do making your website look “pretty”.
Your website must be original and full of fresh, relevant, high quality content.
Give information out in your articles; show your potential clients that you know what you’re talking about. Have a “Frequently Asked Questions” page on your website, maybe even have a video (or several) of yourself explaining each of the top 5 most asked questions and what the answers are.
Videos are so easy and so few attorneys actually do them! Think about it, your smartphone is essentially a video camera already. It takes only minutes to cover something like the five questions that you are asked every day. You already know how to answer those questions in the shortest and most informative way; record it!
If there is a lawsuit going on that has caught media attention (I.E. The Casey Anthony Trial), post an article on your website that talks about how you see the case, how you think the defense attorney is handling it, and maybe even how you would handle it differently.
This way your potential clients get a feel of how you work as an attorney and the money you’ve thrown into marketing isn’t just going in the trash.
