5 Tips For Attorney Marketing: The 5 Small Changes You Can Make To Change Your Life
Friday, February 21, 2014

Marketing as an attorney takes work. Many attorneys will think, “I don’t have time for marketing. I’m too busy as it is.”, “I don’t make enough money to pay for it.”, I don’t have the right staff for it.”, “I don’t have any ideas.” So on so forth.

The fact of the matter is that the correct marketing can change all of that. In fact, you can’t afford to not market your firm. So many attorneys let their minds become clouded with the same thinking process that attorneys have had for hundreds of years. The best way to fix that is by doing some of the most basic marketing techniques:

  • Producing Video

The reason videos are such great tools is that there is no stopping them. Your videos can be seen 24/7, every day of the year. When you’re relaxing on a holiday, your video is working. Videos don’t have to be fancy or complicated. Take two hours and film yourself answering the top 7 questions you get in your field, then edit them (or hire an intern to edit them) and post one each week for seven weeks. You’re giving out worthwhile, needed, relevant information and whomever watches it is associating your face and voice with knowledge on this subject.

  • Writing Content

You’ve heard it before; content is king. If you’re not producing fresh, relevant, high-quality content, you should change that. The content you publish on your website is the potential client’s first impression of you as an attorney. If your articles don’t make sense, aren’t giving away information, or are just stuffed to the brink with keywords to hit google searches, you won’t make a good impression.

  • Targeting your ideal client

Rather than just taking every case that comes through the door, if you want it or not, you should take the time to map out your ideal client and figure out what you need to do to get that kind of person into your office.

  • Thinking differently

If you always did what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got. If you’re unhappy with how your firm is running, change it.

  • Keeping your herd in the loop

This one is a bit different and not as common. This is a way to not only retain your clients, but to get great referrals from those clients. Your herd - your past and current clients - are people who already know and love what it is you do, but that doesn’t mean that you should forget about them. Take the time to remind them why they like you as their attorney. Send out a newsletter with information on what’s happened with the firm; keep them in the loop. You can make a point to send out a quarterly newsletter to your herd. If you’ve recently published a book, you may even include a special form to order that book. Let them know that you remember them.
