Thursday, March 23, 2017

Europe’s Geneva Auto Show ended March 19, demonstrating to the world that Europe continues to dream up some of the best supercars in the world.  Supercars making waves at the show included Lamborghini’s impressive, muscular Huracan Performante, McLaren’s 720S, and the Ferrari 812 Superfast. Renault debuted its newest A110 Alpine sports car, touching on the nostalgia of the A110 Berlinette’s shape with modern technology and performance.

Auto Show, CarsCrossover vehicles also made headlines.  Peugeot SA won European car of the year for its compact crossover 3008 urban 4×4, hot on the heels of news PSA Group would buy GM’s European Opel business.  Subaru debuted the new Crosstek, which will be built in Lafayette, Indiana.  Volvo also unveiled the Volvo XC60, with a smaller profile than the XC90.

The show even included an autonomous “flying car” concept, the Pop.Up, where the passenger capsule can switch between either a car or a quadrocopter.  Airbus and Italdesign envisioned the ability to avoid a congested commute by telling the system’s artificial intelligence to transfer transportation modes.

The industry remains cautiously optimistic about 2017 in the European automotive market, with hope for a year of slight growth as the industry has finally returned to pre-recession levels.
