Starr is passionate about defending her clients’ interests in adversarial proceedings and has successfully defended numerous state and federal privacy and security class actions, arbitrations, and regulatory investigations for clients across sectors. Her practice is particularly concentrated on supporting private equity firms and their portfolio companies. She is known for her depth and breadth of privacy knowledge and her business-focused approach to tailoring strategies in litigation and regulatory investigations and proceedings to meet her clients’ needs. She has a deep understanding of the legal implications associated with the intersection of the law, technology, and consumer behavior and leverages that understanding into successful outcomes.
She has set favorable precedent in defending putative class action privacy and cybersecurity litigation in state and federal courts using novel and creative approaches to advance the interests of her clients and similarly situated defendants. She has also successfully represented clients in privacy and security-focused investigations by state attorneys general, the FTC, OCR, and international regulators.
She also translates her depth of experience in adversarial proceedings into business-focused risk mitigation strategies for her clients and has successfully developed hundreds of internationally compliant privacy and information governance plans across sectors. She is particularly adept at analyzing and aligning the interests of privacy compliance and marketing outcomes. She has also served as privacy due diligence counsel in billions of dollars’ worth of private equity and M&A-related transactions.
Starr chairs the steering committee of the privacy and cybersecurity-focused working group of the Sedona Conference® and was selected as a Fellow of Information Privacy by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
She is regularly invited to speak on emerging privacy and data issues, including AI, biometrics, children’s privacy, digital marketing, data analytics, and evolutions and emerging trends in privacy litigation.
