Professional Biography

Clients turn to attorney Sam Nolan for guidance on complex employee benefits matters.  

Sam advises clients from numerous industries on designing, implementing, and operating employers’ employee benefits programs, including qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation arrangements. For clients contemplating a corporate transaction, he provides advice on risk assessments, plan mergers and terminations, the establishment of new benefit platforms, and other employee benefits issues that can arise.

Sam also represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in government audits, corrective filings under the IRS and DOL correction programs, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) investigations.

Before joining Epstein Becker Green, Sam was an employee benefits attorney at a national law firm. Previously, he worked as a judicial extern for the Honorable Christine Donohue of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

While at Duquesne University School of Law, Sam served as president of the school’s Appellate Moot Court Board and competed in moot court competitions for three years. He also was an associate editor of the Duquesne Law Review.
