RYAN L. WILLIS is an associate in the Business and Finance Department and a member of the Intellectual Property and Technology Commercialization Practice Area of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. Mr. Willis is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has extensive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications including thermoelectrics, chemical coatings, medical/surgical prosthetics and equipment, and chemical separation technology, such as microchannel technologies. He regularly conducts patentability studies, authors legal opinions regarding infringement and non-infringement, and prepares and negotiates intellectual property licenses, including software licenses. Mr. Willis gained experience as a patent examiner, particularly in the area semiconductors, at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D. C. prior to joining the firm. He received his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana and his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law. Mr. Willis is admitted to practice before the Bar of Ohio and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which has exclusive jurisdiction of appeals involving patents in federal court.
