Professional Biography

Robert A. Wade is a partner in the South Bend and Washington, D.C., offices of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. As a member of the Healthcare Department, Mr. Wade represents large health systems, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, physician groups, physicians and other medical providers. He has wide-ranging experience representing clients in matters involving the Stark Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act.

With more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Wade counsels clients in developing, monitoring and documenting effective healthcare compliance programs. He currently serves as the Compliance Expert to the Board of Commissioners of Halifax Health advising the hospital on all aspects of its Corporate Integrity Agreement. He has experience representing healthcare clients being investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of Inspector General.

Mr. Wade assists clients in negotiating and implementing corporate integrity agreements and in documenting and defending financial arrangements between healthcare providers, including hospitals, large health systems and referring physicians, as being of fair market value and commercially reasonable.

Previously, Mr. Wade served as a general counsel and organizational integrity officer for a multi-hospital system.

Mr. Wade is a frequent speaker at many national and regional healthcare legal, compliance and regulatory conferences, including conferences sponsored by the American Health Lawyers Association and Health Care Compliance Association.

Mr. Wade has been recognized on The Best Lawyers in America and Indiana Super Lawyers lists for his work in healthcare law since 2009. He serves on the editorial advisory boards for Strategies for Health Care Compliance and for the Report on Medicare Compliance.

Mr. Wade earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1989, where he served as the managing editor for The Ohio State University Law Journal and was a member of the Order of the Coif and Omicron Delta Kappa. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, in 1986 from Bowling Green State University.
