Robert Worley is a partner in the Litigation Practice Group. Drawing on his experience in private practice and as in-house general counsel, he provides full-spectrum legal advice and dispute-resolution leadership.
After nearly a decade of service as executive vice president, corporate secretary, and general counsel of IBERIABANK Corporation, preceded by more than 25 years in private practice, Rob is among a select group of attorneys with experience as a legal counselor, a trial and appellate lawyer, and a corporate executive. Based on this wide-ranging background, Rob understands firsthand how corporate clients view litigation from cost and risk-exposure perspectives and knows how to handle court cases successfully as a litigator.
During his initial tenure at Jones Walker, Rob served on the firm’s board of directors, was chairman of the former Professional Employment Committee, and was a partner in the Labor & Employment Practice Group. During his legal career, Rob successfully defended clients in hundreds of employment lawsuits in more than 30 states; he tried 73 cases in 20 of those states, 31 of which were jury trials — winning the great majority of the employment trials where he served as lead counsel. He has presented oral arguments before a number of federal appellate courts as well as state courts of appeal. Among other areas, he has defended discrimination, harassment, and other claims brought under state and federal laws and regulations, including the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He also handled lawsuits involving noncompetition, breach of contract, and other disputes.
Rob’s work in arbitration and mediation is also noteworthy; he has handled numerous cases heard before such alternative dispute resolution forums, as well as in proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and various state human rights agencies.
