Nija Chappel* helps organizations develop legal strategies that will assist them in navigating today’s complex health care environment.
Hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers count on Nija for assistance with health care fraud and abuse, reimbursement, health policy, and regulatory compliance matters. She also keeps clients up to date on relevant federal and state legislative and regulatory trends.
Nija was previously with Epstein Becker Green as a summer associate, working on projects relating to telemental health, vaccination policies, and health insurance coverage issues. She earned her law degree with a health law concentration from the George Washington University (GW) Law School and a Master of Public Health from GW’s Milken Institute School of Public Health.
While attending law school, Nija honed her health law and policy research and analytical skills as a Health Policy/Law Intern at an international medical humanitarian organization, where she analyzed international vaccine channel access challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also served as a Legal Extern with the Board of Medicine, Board of Nursing, and Board of Chiropractic at the Office of General Counsel for the DC Department of Health, where, among other things, she drafted proposed legislation establishing regulatory rules for non-licensed DC health employers. During her time at GW Law School, Nija also served as a student attorney at the Jacob Burns Health Rights Clinic, representing low-income individuals in Medicaid and other public health benefit denials in the District of Columbia.
Prior to law school, Nija worked as a patient care representative for a Seattle cancer research clinic and was a Constituent Services Intern for a federal Senator from Washington State.
