Michael Cox

Professional Biography

Michael Cox is a public policy advisor in our Public Policy Practice based in the Denver office. Previously, Mike practiced construction law, managing government contracts and claims litigation in Washington DC. He has been active in the nonprofit sector, building partnerships with government entities, corporations and school systems.

As a lawyer in Washington DC, Mike’s practice focused on construction law. In this role, he negotiated government contracts in the transportation and infrastructure sectors, including large, complex joint venture agreements, public-private partnerships and design-build jobs. He managed claims litigation in state and municipal courts, as well as in alternative dispute resolution involving work delays, construction defects, and various issues stemming from projects along the East Coast.

His policy experience stems from work at the Office of Congressional Affairs, the Office of the US Trade Representative, the Colorado Senate and in Washington DC.

Most recently, Mike came to the firm by way of the non-profit world, where he managed partnerships with the District of Columbia, including the Department of Parks and Recreation, public and independent school systems, and businesses. In this role, he directed the first outdoor education programming in the nation’s capital and negotiated for the use of land and construction of the only challenge course in the District of Columbia. He gained intensive experience in managing partnerships with local governments, sponsoring corporations, schools and donors, and possesses in-depth working knowledge of, and experience in, politics, public policy, and state and federal legislative processes.
