John Getty is an associate in the Tampa office, where he is a member of the labor & employment practice group. John began his practice in Louisiana, before moving to Florida several years ago. He holds an extensive background in civil litigation, representing clients before state, federal, and administrative courts, on numerous types of matters. John has defended a variety of discrimination and harassment matters from beginning to conclusion, including resolution via summary judgment. He has led the defense of large, multi-party collective action lawsuits with hundreds of workers. John has also helped employers with traditional labor matters, including handling grievance arbitrations and collective bargaining negotiations. Beyond that, he’s helped advise employers on how to minimize risks while addressing human resource-related challenges, including responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and developing various employment agreements, handbooks, practices, and policies. John has also provided employment-focused support for multi-million dollar transactional work, including drafting and negotiating executive agreements, restrictive covenants, and related matters. And John has provided training to management and supervisors.
Prior to beginning his practice, John attended the College of William and Mary in Virginia where he played Intramural Rugby and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. John graduated from the Emory University School of Law. While in law school, John was a Managing Editor of the Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal and Captain of the Emory ADR Society Arbitration Team.
When not practicing, John enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and the family dog.
