Professional Biography

Joanna Herman, a Partner with In-House Counsel Recruiting, helps build and strengthen in-house legal departments for organizations within Southern California and across the country. She partners with global, national and regional companies across a broad spectrum of industries, including the pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech, technology, manufacturing, consumer products, insurance, energy, software and manufacturing industries to place senior-level legal leaders. Joanna understands that every client is unique with their own challenges and needs. She uses her years of experience specializing in in-house recruiting to personalize her guidance and help her clients achieve their desired results.

Identifying the right hire is key to Joanna’s approach. She works closely with her clients to determine the qualities and skill sets needed, whether it be to lead a legal department as general counsel or to help build out a legal team. Her clients value Joanna’s knowledge of the market as well as her ability to present candidates who are a cultural fit and will add value to the team.

When working with candidates, Joanna takes special care to learn about their goals and needs and introduce them to roles that are amazing opportunities for their careers.

Before joining Major, Lindsey & Africa in early 2013, Joanna spent over a decade working at law firms in San Diego. She was an associate in the San Diego office of Morrison & Foerster from June 2004 until February 2013, focusing on product liability and commercial litigation, working with clients across various industries including pharmaceutical, medical device, toxic torts and aviation. She began the early part of her career at Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (now DLA Piper).
