Jeffrey D. Simon is an associate with Foley & Lardner LLP, based in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, where he is a member of the firm’s Chemical, Biotech & Pharmaceutical Practice. Jeffrey is not admitted to practice in California.
Before joining Foley, Jeffrey was a patent attorney for a national corporation in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he worked closely with inventors in all phases of drafting and filing patent applications including reviewing invention disclosures, counseling clients regarding further inventions and strategies for claiming an invention as well as plans for manufacturing and marketing the invention. He also collaborated with division and business group managers to ensure IP strategy and manufacturing aligned with the financial objectives and expense targets of the health care business group. He prepared and prosecuted domestic and international patent applications for a wide variety of health care business group technologies. He also managed division dockets for foreign and domestic patent and intellectual property matters, prepared appeal briefs before the PTAB, collaborated with foreign counsel to ensure the full protection of intellectual property rights abroad as well as conducting freedom to operate evaluations and providing legal support for litigation and pre-litigation evaluations.
Previously, Jeffrey was an intellectual property associate attorney in Grand Rapids, Michigan where he counseled clients on various strategies for protecting ideas related to inventions and products while taking into consideration the client’s competition and plans to market the invention in the U.S. and abroad. He prepared patentability, freedom-to-operate, invalidity opinions and also prepared and prosecuted patents and trademarks.
While in law school, Jeffrey worked as a patent law summer associate participating in claim construction during patent litigation and drafting patent applications within a variety of industries including the chemical, biochemical and healthcare industries. He also performed patentability opinions for clients proposed inventions, worked with search agencies in conducting patentability searches and reviewed then discussed prior art with clients.
