Jafon Fearson leverages prosecution and litigation experience across the IP spectrum to craft forward-focused solutions that are practical and client-specific.
Whether drafting pleadings before the federal district courts, Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, or responding to office actions before the Patent Office, Jafon brings an eagerness and personal commitment to achieving the best possible result with the reality of the client’s business in mind. With efficiency and attention to detail, Jafon’s litigation practice has included performing pre-litigation due diligence, drafting and responding to pleadings, motions, and discovery requests, performing and managing document review and production, and preparing and taking depositions. In his prosecution practice, Jafon has prepared and prosecuted patent and trademark applications, with patent prosecution experience in the medical device, semiconductor, optics, and automotive arts. Jafon has further conducted patentability evaluations, assisted in the analysis and drafting of patentability opinions, and counseled clients concerning corporate intellectual property policy and strategy.
In addition to a focus on client service, Jafon has a strong commitment to mentoring and promoting diversity in the legal profession, which in part is demonstrated through Jafon’s role as a student mentor and member of the Associate’s Board for Legal Prep Charter Academy. Legal Prep is a free, open enrollment, legal-themed Chicago public charter school attended by mostly minority students, and through Legal Prep’s mentoring program, Jafon assists the students in exploring legal themes and proceedings such as mock trial to develop communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and advocacy skills.
