Greg Leighton focuses his practice on Technology Transactions and Privacy and Cybersecurity. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US and CIPP/E) and a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Greg is also a Privacy Law Specialist as recognized by the ABA and IAPP.
Greg has extensive experience counseling clients on domestic and international privacy compliance programs; data security; the movement of data across international borders; and a wide array of transactions that involve technology or data flows.
In addition to helping clients develop information security policies, data maps, privacy policies, and data breach and cyberattack response plans, Greg is well-versed in methods that help clients manage their data and maximize its value while minimizing associated risks and costs. Greg also represents clients in class-action lawsuits arising from alleged breach of privacy and security laws.
As a registered patent attorney, Greg provides legal advice and guidance to clients in patent prosecution, protection and enforcement of intellectual property assets. He works with clients to resolve disputes regarding intellectual property rights across diverse industries ranging from chemical and life sciences to digital communications and e-commerce. In addition, Greg has successfully represented clients in patent, trademark, and copyright disputes before federal courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the United States International Trade Commission.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Greg had significant lab and commercial experience as a chemical engineer. During his studies at Northwestern University, he participated in substantial lab research that included the design and experimental testing of chemical processing systems comprising a wide array of reactions and process components. During and after his undergraduate studies, Greg gained significant experience putting his research knowledge to commercial use with a leading food manufacturer, where he advanced innovative product and process designs from pilot-plant scale through to large-scale commercialization.
