Gary Slagel, who most recently retired as the Senior Advisor of Environmental Affairs for CONSOL Energy, has joined the firm as a Government Affairs Specialist. Mr. Slagel is an engineering graduate from the University of Dayton and spent 35 years with CONSOL and CNX Gas in several capacities including Director of Environmental Regulatory Affairs and later Director of Government Affairs working on both coal and natural gas issues. In his most recent position, Mr. Slagel was asked to redirect his talents to addressing the increasingly complex issues associated with shale gas exploration and development. Mr. Slagel has extensive legislative and regulatory experience including the four-year mediation effort that resulted in 1994 amendments to the original Pennsylvania Subsidence Act; the two-year mediation effort that amended the Pennsylvania Coal Refuse Disposal Act and the more recently, 2012 amendments to the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Act. He remains intimately involved with all regulatory issues impacting natural gas development through his roles on the PA Oil and Gas Technical Advisory Board, the Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association, the Marcellus Shale Coalition and the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association.
