Professional Biography

Emma Walters joined the firm as an Associate in January 2025.

Before joining KBK, Ms. Walters worked in litigation at a large firm in New York, where she maintained a robust pro bono practice focusing on asylum relief and advocacy on behalf of survivors of domestic violence. She spent the last two years clerking for the Honorable Indira Talwani on the District of Massachusetts and the Honorable Gabriel P. Sanchez on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. While Ms. Walters worked on a variety of civil, criminal, and administrative matters during her clerkships, she particularly enjoyed cases involving complex immigration questions, civil rights, Title IX, and constitutional law.

Ms. Walters’s scholarship on gender and the law, including the application of the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act on custody cases involving domestic violence, has been published in the California Law Review.

Ms. Walters graduated from Berkeley Law School, where she graduated Order of the Coif and was an editor on the California Law Review and the Berkeley Journal of Gender, Law & Justice. Prior to law school, she graduated from Mount Holyoke College. Ms. Walters is a Fulbright Scholar and spent a year in Spain researching state-sponsored services for survivors of sexual violence. She is a member of the New York bar and is fluent in Spanish.
