David Maria is a member of our Government Investigations & White Collar Practice. Prior to joining the firm, David served as a federal prosecutor, both as a Trial Attorney in the Fraud Section of the US Department of Justice's Criminal Division in Washington DC, and as an Assistant US Attorney (AUSA) in the District of Minnesota in the Criminal Division's White Collar and Public Corruption Unit.
While at the Fraud Section, David investigated and prosecuted cases in both the Health Care Fraud Unit and in the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) Unit. He was the primary prosecutor on several high-profile cases, including healthcare fraud investigations into two of the largest US-based hospital systems and an FCPA investigation into a major pharma company.
While serving as an AUSA in Minnesota, David focused on investigating and prosecuting healthcare fraud, investment and securities fraud, and tax fraud cases. During his time at the Fraud Section and the US Attorney's Office, David tried multiple complex white collar cases to verdict, successfully obtaining convictions of more than 50 criminal defendants.
His private practice career has included work in the government investigations and securities practices at several law firms in Washington DC. His experience includes leading multiple internal investigations into potential FCPA violations, including investigations in Latin America, Hong Kong, China and Africa, counseling companies regarding governmental compliance obligations and leading a special committee’s investigation in response to a shareholder derivative suit.
