Professional Biography

Dan Joyner is a leading authority on matters of international trade and security law and policy, including financial sanctions, export controls, and foreign investment regulation. He is an advisor on current trends and developments in international trade and investment law both in the U.S. and internationally. 

He is also a trusted authority and advisor with long experience on issues of nuclear energy law, including all elements of the nuclear fuel cycle, as well as nuclear power plant financing, investment, safeguards, licensing, safety, security, and liability. He advises on current trends and legal developments in the nuclear energy industry.

He has over twenty years of experience providing legal advice and training to sovereign states and private parties on legal and policy matters in these areas. He has also implemented projects for the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

Dan is currently the Elton B. Stephens Professor of Law at the University of Alabama School of law, where he has been on the faculty since 2007. Prior to that, he was on the faculty of the University of Warwick School of Law in the U.K. In 2005 he was a Senior Associate Member of St. Antony’s College, Oxford University, and has also taught courses as a visitor at the University of Manchester in the UK, and at the Australian National University and the University of New South Wales in Australia. He is a frequent invited speaker around the world.
