Burton Peebles advises clients on a wide variety of workplace issues, including employee leaves of absence, disability accommodations, religious accommodations, and conducting workplace investigations. He strives to ensure employers meet their business goals, including compliance with the law, avoiding litigation, and appropriately positioning themselves to defend litigation when necessary.
Burton also represents Fortune 500 plaintiffs in the enforcement of employment non-compete, non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements, as well as defendants defending against similar allegations throughout Georgia.
Burton also has extensive experience defending clients facing allegations of discrimination and retaliation arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 1981, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Burton actively navigates clients through administrative investigations and audits before both the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the U.S. Department of Labor, including handling on-site investigations, discovery and compliance efforts. Where claims result in active litigation, Burton is adept in and actively pursues avenues of early resolution when beneficial, including mediation and arbitration proceedings. In addition to assisting clients in the defense of administrative and civil claims, Burton frequently advises clients on regulatory and legal requirements impacting the workplace, provides a robust assessment of corporate policies and practices, and provides employee and management training where necessary.
Before joining the firm, Burton gained valuable experience with another AmLaw 100 firm’s Labor and Employment and Commercial Litigation practice groups. He represented clients nationwide in a myriad of matters, including traditional employment disputes and FLSA collection actions, as well as claims regarding the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, breaches of contract, executive compensation, restrictive covenants, and general liability disputes. Previously, Burton also served as a regulatory associate with a boutique firm in Metro Atlanta representing telecommunications and emerging technology companies before the FCC and all state regulatory commissions.
