Brandt is a state and federal government regulatory attorney who is a frequent national speaker on tax and utility policy issues.
Brandt brings strong policy and political knowledge to his practice, with his state legislative tenure complimented by nearly two decades as senior staffer for a committee chairman in the U.S. House of Representatives and two years serving in the White House as a senior presidential writer for President George H.W. Bush.
In addition to his deep tax policy background, Brandt authored landmark telecommunications deregulation legislation widely lauded as the best in the nation, leading to investments of more than $5 billion in telecommunications infrastructure across Indiana.
While serving as an Indiana Senator, which is not a full-time position, he was managing partner and general counsel of The DeNovo Group from 2013 to 2017. Previously, Brandt was executive director of the Program on Continuing Education for Public Officials at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
Moreover, Brandt served in several staff positions for former U.S. Rep. Steve Buyer of Indiana, including district operations director, and as press secretary for Buyer for Congress.
As a leader in the tax and public policy field, Brandt has been a frequent speaker across the country and internationally, and has testified before state legislatures outside of Indiana on energy and tax issues. Notably, Brandt earned two executive certificates in addition to his undergraduate and law degrees, one in comparative tax policy and administration from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and one in finance and financial management services from Cornell University.
