Anyone involved in the clean energy sector can barely make it through the day without hearing about or seeing news reports on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 passed by Congress on August 12, 2022, and signed by President Biden on August 16, 2022. How a significant part of the Act is aimed at fighting climate change and promoting domestic energy security. How it extends and expands existing tax credits as well as adds several new energy tax credits for clean energy projects, production, manufacturing, and more. And how the Act also adds new grants and loan programs. The policy changes in the legislation are certainly a boon for new and existing participants in the clean energy sector.
This discussion of the energy tax provisions in the Act was led by Anne Levin-Nussbaum, a Member in our Energy & Sustainability and Tax Practices. It also included Neal Martin, Senior Director of Government Relations, ML Strategies, and Courtney Taylor, Senior Vice President, ML Strategies, who reviewed the Act’s new direct funding opportunities and offers insights regarding the implementation of such funding programs.
