The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) announced on October 19, 2023, that North Carolina State University will hold the Waste to Advanced Resources Matter (WARM) workshop November 15-16, 2023, in Raleigh, North Carolina. With support from BETO, and in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, IBM, the Town of Cary, and Idaho National Laboratory, the workshop will bring together participants interested in carbon resource recovery from municipal solid waste (MSW) destined to landfills for ultimate conversion to biofuels, biopower, biochemicals, and bioproducts. BETO states that the workshop will provide representatives from industry, municipalities, national labs, universities, non-governmental organizations (NGO), and governmental agencies “with a forum for discussion and engagement, focusing on decarbonization end-to-end solutions, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML), cloud, and industry 4.0/smart manufacturing technologies. According to BETO, participants’ input will be used to inform and set priorities along the supply chain in support of achieving renewable resources goals and decarbonizing the waste sector.
