On April 10, 2025, the U.S. Senate confirmed Mark Meador as the newest commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission. Meador was nominated on January 20, 2025, by President Donald J. Trump. Meador’s term will expire on September 25, 2031.

Meador previously worked in private practice and was a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation Tech Policy Center. He also worked at the U.S. Department of Justice as an antitrust trial attorney and in the office of Utah U.S. Senator Mike Lee as the Deputy Chief Counsel for Antitrust and Competition Policy.

Meador’s appointment consolidates the FTC’s Republican majority, which also includes Chair Andrew N. Ferguson and Melissa Holyoak. In March 2025, President Trump removed Alvaro Bedoya and Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, the two Democratic-nominated FTC Commissioners. Bedoya and Slaughter are currently contesting their dismissals in court.
