Tuesday, October 11, 2022

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor announced today that its Mine Safety and Health Administration is hosting the annual Training Resources Applied to Mining conference at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beaver, West Virginia, from Oct. 11 to 13.

The tuition-free conference features presentations from some of the industry’s most respected trainers and include in-person and online workshops to promote safety in the nation’s metal/nonmetal and coal mines, and demonstrate new approaches to training designed to better protect miners.

“For more than 30 years, this annual event has helped mine safety and health trainers sharpen their skills, and present advances and best practices in industry training,” said Assistant Secretary for Mine Safety and Health Christopher J. Williamson. “Bringing Mine Safety and Health Administration professionals and trainers from across the nation together at this year’s conference supports our goal to do all we can to keep miners safe and healthy.”

The theme of the 2022 conference is “Game On! Game-Changing Training” and incorporates virtual reality and other modern technologies into safety and health training. In addition to educational sessions, the Training Resources Applied to Mining conference features exhibits offered by MSHA, state grant recipients and other mining industry stakeholders. Other exhibits by industry providers from around the U.S. focus on innovative health and safety products, such as communication and tracking systems, mining proximity detection systems and industrial collision-avoidance systems.

Educational sessions include topics such as Advancements in Virtual Reality Mine Rescue Simulations, Hurricane Preparedness for Surface Mining Operations, and Sleep Deprivation and Stress in the Mine Site.
