UAW Not Letting Up on Tesla

UAW Not Letting Up on Tesla
Friday, October 27, 2017

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union still has its sights set on Tesla. Earlier this week, the UAW filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) alleging that the car manufacturer illegally terminated employees who support the union’s ongoing organizing efforts. These allegations come on the heels of separate charges filed by the UAW against Tesla related to unionization efforts earlier this year.

The UAW’s recent focus on Tesla is not surprising given it has lost hundreds of thousands of members over the last few decades. Its recent attempts to unionize new car manufacturing plants largely have been unsuccessful, however, with a major loss at Nissan earlier this year making national headlines. Despite its losses on the organizing front, the UAW is showing no signs of letting up. This serves as a reminder to employers to remain vigilant in their union avoidance planning and strategies.
