Same-Sex Virginia Couples Can Freely Marry, Adopt

Same-Sex Virginia Couples Can Freely Marry, Adopt
Monday, October 13, 2014

On October 6, 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court, through its dismissal of appeals from Virginia and other states seeking to ban marriages for lesbian and gay couples, effectively legalized same-sex marriage in Virginia.

On October 10, 2014, Virginia Governor, Terry McAuliffe, announced he was sending notices to social services divisions confirming that married, gay couples can now adopt children because his office now formally recognizes that same-sex couples can legally adopt.

Same sex couples in Virginia now have the opportunity to navigate the exciting prospects of marriage and adoption in their home state.
