Massachusetts Earned Sick Leave Law Update: Proposed Regulations Released by Attorney General’s Office
Monday, April 27, 2015

Proposed regulations to the voter-approved Massachusetts Earned Sick Leave Law, which takes effect July 1, 2015, were released by the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office on April 24th. The proposed regulations can be found here. The proposal covers accrual rates, carry-over, and the relationship between sick and other types of leave, among other things.

The Earned Sick Leave Law applies to all Massachusetts employers. For employers with 11 or more employees, sick time must be paid; for employers with 10 or fewer employees, the sick time may be unpaid. (For more on the Law, see our article, Massachusetts Voters Pass Mandatory Sick Time Law for All Employers, Effective July 1, 2015.)

The Attorney General’s Office invites comments on its proposal and will hold public hearings, including one in Boston on May 18, 2015. Information on providing comments and the public hearing schedule can be found here

If you would like additional information about the Massachusetts earned sick leave law or assistance in submitting comments, please contact the Jackson Lewis attorney with whom you work.
