On December 19, 2014, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed into law Public Act 098-1132, reducing the number of jurors in civil cases from 12 to 6. Previously, the parties in a civil case were entitled to demand trial by a jury of 12. The new law will become effective on June 1, 2015. In cases filed before June 1, the parties will still be entitled to a jury of 12.
