EPA Continues to Review Air Quality

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the availability of its draft plan for the agency’s review of secondary national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for oxides of nitrogen and oxides of sulfur (NOX/SOX). Nominations to EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee

EPA is inviting nominations for candidates to be considered for appointment to its Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC). The LGAC provides advice to the EPA Administrator on environmental issues impacting local governments. EPA is soliciting nominations for up to twelve anticipated vacancies. The nominees will be selected to represent: large cities, moderate-sized cities, small communities and townships as well as other community officials. Deadline for submitting nominations is December 14.

Legislative Activity

This Week’s Hearings:

  • On Tuesday, November 17, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing to discuss future federal wildland fire management strategies.

  • On Thursday, November 19, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing to consider the Well Control Rule and offshore oil and gas production regulations.

  • On Wednesday, November 18, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a hearing on U.S. participation in international climate negotiations. David Waskow, Director of the International Climate Initiative for the World Resources Institute, among others, will testify.

  • On Wednesday, November 18, the House Natural Resource Committee will hold a full committee hearing to consider the discussion draft of the “Protecting America’s Recreation and Conservation Act,” or the PARC Act. This would significantly change the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) that congress recently allowed to expire.
